Targeted Population

Any body who is between age 20 and thirty be he/she be a refugee, Internally Displaced Persons or any marginalized youths irrespective of race, religion, colour or creed can join this Programme, provided he passed the Matriculation (entrance) examinations.

Selection

Every year application forms are sent out to the old students and respective Education Committee of the border refugee camps in the peripherals Burma as well as to designated exam centers. Anybody desirous of attending this course has to fill in the application form (available on line ON THIS WEBSITE) or at the College. Refugees, IDPs and potential students are handled directly by AEIOU head office at CMU and must contact their representatives.

Matriculation Examination

A three hour written examination for the proficiency of English (GCE A level, CANTAS or TOFEL) together with another paper on general knowledge has to be answered in their respective centers. Once the student passed the examination he/she has to answer a tough oral examination to discover whether he/she is really bent on serving the community and have a good moral character. 

Marital Status 

Every candidate must be single and must not smoke or drink and must be recommended by his community signed by a guarantor. Must have a good moral character, ethics and potential to study for higher education and the will to serve its own community must be strongly prevalent. The examiner sees to it before he/she is allowed to answer the Matriculation (entrance) examination.

First Year

If the student is selected, then they are called on to Chiang Mai for one semester which usually starts from February to May. All expenses and security problems are handled by AEIOU. That is label as a first semester. The second semester starts at once in June at their respective communities (refugee camps, IDP areas, inside Burma, Migrant areas) where they will have to conduct the ensuing year Matriculation examination and must write the assigned paper. 

Marking Scheme

Studying at AEIOU for the first semester will earn him only 40%. The Matriculation examination which he conducted in his community plus the assigned task will earn him another 40% while 20% will depends on the student’s participation, character, role model and initiation. Out of that 100 marks if he/she does not get 50 then he is considered as failed. 

Second Year

The same pattern follows the second year but it became more intensive and more responsible. The term paper which he writes during his second semester must range between 80 to 100 pages because this term paper will have to be submitted to the affiliated universities. Second year students are allow to get married. 

Diploma

If a student passed the second year successfully, then he is granted a diploma signed not only by AEIOU Responsible but also by Chiang Mai University. (However, due to budget stringency there will not be a graduation ceremony every year, but will hold it when it is feasible).

Third Year

Any second year student that is desirous to continue their further studies must serve one year either at his own community or at AEIOU and affiliated Institutes. Then he is send abroad for one year to our affiliated Universities in US, Canada, Australia, Europe, Philippines, India, Thailand, Bangladesh. (Note those who do not excel the French language will not be eligible for the European Universities).

Final Year

For the final year there is no regular class but must write a partial thesis with the assigned professor and once the Programme approved the Thesis a degree is issued.
